ONE DAY IN LUCERNE 2017, SWITZERLAND

One of the things on my bucketlist was to explore Switzerland a little bit more. I definately have been in a few different cities but that has been a long time ago. So a friend of mine and I had planned an one-day-trip to Lucerne. Lucerne is famous for it‘s beauty and was definately of my top 5 have to visit cities in Switzerland.

We had planned to go there very early so we had a lot of time to discover a lot of Lucerne. Now looking back it was not the best idea as the weather was not great and as we had planned to walk around most of the time, this was definately not the best plan. We still decide to go there and have some brunch. As we went on a Saturday there was not the biggest choice of restaurants which offers brunch but still found some few amazing places:

Quai4

Those three had been my top 3 and we decide us for the Quai4 as it was not that far away and not the most expensive one. It still was quite a lot (CHF 36.00 per person) but it included drinks and a buffet which had a really big offer of food.

We spend there a lot time as it was a cold rainy das. Therefore we had no preasure to go outside. On that they day it definately felt like winter and somehow I got really excided for the winter season but the rain was a little bit annoying so my excitement staid limited.

As it looked like the rain was calming down we paid the bill and went outside to explore the city. Unfortunately the rain had not stopped completely but we still decide to go outside. While walking I realized that it was definately winter season. Until that day it did not felt like winter. In my mind I had been stuck in the fall season but winter was definately coming. It was freezing cold!

Kappelbrücke

We walked back to the main train station and from there we went to the Kapellbrücke. The Kapellbrücke is one of the most famous memorials of Lucerne. So we definately had to go there and also it was a little as you would have a roof over the head. So we walked slowly under the bridge and hoped that the rain would stop until we had passed it but of course it doesn't stopped.

We passed the bridge and walked a little bit around the allays right next to the bridge.

Even though there were beautiful buildings like these ones above it was freezing so we decide to go to the Mall of Switzerland. On that weekend it also was the weekend of Black Friday so there were a lot of peoples. I have to say that I am not the biggest fan of this mall as it does not have my kind of shops there. I am definately more into high end stores or like Zara, Globus and Jelmolie.
So we walked around went into a few shops until the rain stopped.

As it finally went a little brigther outside we drove back to Lucerne city and walked there around and tired to explore the city a little bit. We walked up to the Museggmauer but unfortunately we realized that you could not go up in the winter season. Therefore we could not go up so we just walked next to it back to the middle of the city. Than it started to rain again and we decide to go into a café as walking around it the rain did not look like a good idea.

Amorino

On our way back from the Mall of Switzerland to the city I saw the ice cream shop Amorino which I knew from Seville, Spain. So if you have read my Seville post you would recognize it from there. So I definately wanted to go there and have a flower ice cream even though it was cold outside. They had this amazing Santa Claus special one as you can see below which I could not resist to order:

It was around 04:00 p.m. CET as we went there, and the rooftop bars which should have been the highlights of this little trip, only opened on 05:30 p.m. so therefore we had a lot of time to spend in this little café. So after talking a lot we went outside at ca. 05:00 p.m. and we notice that all the christmas lights have been put on. Until this point I was a little bit disappointed in Lucerne but after this little strolling around the whole day and attitude of us changed.

So I can recommand if you go one day to Lucerne make sure it is a good weather day to go there otherwise I would suggest to go in the evening to have some drinks in that area.
As it went dark the whole city started to look beautiful and welcoming. So we passed again the Kapellbrücke and walked across the river area. To take some pictures of the buildings.

Right next to the Kapellbrücke  there is this little bridge which looks like a perfect instagram-picture-place. Now looking back I would love to take there some pictures but it was definately a too long day to taking pictures and also the quality of the pictures were not ideal.

After walking around and taking some pictures we were really cold and wanted to go in the bar to have a warming drink. We also walked a little bit longer as planned and the bar had already opened.

Botticelli - Rooftop Restaurant

So our first stop was the Botticelli - Rooftop Restaurant which is just insane. To go up we went with the lift and found this amazing place which would be a dream in the summer times.

But as it was winter we decide to go inside and were even more impressed.

The bar inside the building was definately one of the most beautiful ones I have ever seen. I could definately imagine myself to go there and meet my friends after work or after a long day at the weekend. It looked like such a familiar bar and with the lighting and decorating it had something welcoming.

The little fireplace in the middle was absolutely my favorit part of the lounge/bar area. It totally reminded me of Lenzerheide and therefore I ordered my perfect drink the aperol spritz which I think suited the location perfectly.

Also I loved the bathrooms of the bar. I know it is totally a weird gesture to take pictures in the bath but I loved those little messages on the windows and the ambiente of the style of it.

Also there was a floor leading to a big room where you also would be able to eat something which also looked just amazing.

The most stunning part was the bar and the room itself. Vis-à-vis of the bar there were some huge windows where you could see the river with all the buildings where we have been walking arround before.

So we staied there and our mood totaly changed and especially my mood changed completely. I was disappointed and a little bit sad and thought about going home earlier but after this amazing place I was excided to see some more.

Penthouse Roof Top Bar

Our second rooftop bar we wanted to go was called Penthouse and was also just stunning. it totally was indoore goals and I felt in love with every single corner of it.
It also was splitt into two etages and a balcony so I do not think that I know a bigger bar than this one.

Also the prices were a lot cheaper than in a normal bar in Zurich and you would definately not think about that if you would see this bar. Also you are able to order there Pizza which also was just amazing. A dream of a bar, right?

So we definately have not done a lot but I think Lucerne still has some amazing places and things to do. Expecty those rooftops where just insane and I would highly suggest you to go there if you were able to.

Otherwise if you have any suggestion where to go, where to drink and eat - please let me know and I would love to find out!

I hope this little day post would inspire you to go somewhere new and discover the neighbour cities around your home.
