MY TRIP TO MADRID, SPAIN 2017

When I firstly met Madrid.. I fell in love with it!

For my 21 birthday I really wanted to go on holidays to celebrate it there. I also wanted to go to a new place where I never have been before. So we really long thought about it and we came to the solution to go to Madrid.

We both never have been there and also he never went to Spain except Tenerife.
So we.. mostly I researched about Madrid and nice spots and places where we definately had to go to. Also I asked my dad what I should do in Madrid as he went there a few times before. He really suggested us to do daytrips as we wanted to go for one week and we do not really need that much time to discover Madrid. So he suggested us also to visite Còrdoba and Seville and I definately wanted to do that.

First Day in Madrid, Wednesday 26th of April 2017

We arrived arround lunch time in Madrid and we went stright to our appartment to give off our luggages. We booked again via Airbnb and so we first had to catch our keys to the appartment. Only our neighborhood looked good!

Our Appartment

We decided us for a really nice appartment which just looked like a magazin inspiration kinda appartment. I mean just look at it:

It was not the biggest one but it is perfect for two and regarding that we would be out the whole day to explore the city it did not even matter that the appartment was not that big. We really loved it!

Mercado de San Miguel

The appartment is also awesome locaded. It is pretty much next to the Mercado de San Miguel which is a marked where you can try out a lot of the typical tapas and other delicacy of Madrid. So we walked stright to this marked to look at it and we definately fell in love with it.

We do like the concept of the food marked as in the middle there is a bar and a place where you can eat and all arround you can find different stands of all the specialties.

So we decided to walk arround and have a look at every single stand and offer they have.

I think I was definately the most excided of the fruit stands. I love fruits and smoothies and when I was in Barcelona I always went to the food marked there to buy me some fresh fruits and smoothies to go. So I definaltey wanted to do this in Madrid again.

After we had seen the marked we walked to the Plaza Mayor.

Plaza Mayor

The Plaza Mayor is a really touristy spot of Madrid. There you will find always street performer and other peoples who try to sell you touristy stuff as example a selfie stick. But the place itself is very beautfiul as it has some very nice buildings all arround the place. Also if you are searching for touristy stuff which you can gift to someone you can find it arround this place. I also bought there fans for my friends (what a stupid phrase to say).

After that we walked into the direction of the place Puerta del Sol (<- live webcamera).

Where we eat lunch on our first day

On our way we also get very hungry and decided to eat something where we do not had to look arround. So we decided us for an easy one: Wok to Walk. It sounded very good and it was also not that bad and we were to hungry to search for something else. And it also was a good way to not miss much time.

Puerto del Sol

The place Puerta del Sol (<- live webcamera) is the center of and the most fames place of Madrid. You also can find there streetperformers and it is always really crowded as you can see through the live camera.

After I took the picture we walked in direction to the Royal Palace. On our way we also seen some very beautiful buildings. I totaly fell in love with the buildings and architecture in Madrid.

Expectly with the building below I fell in love with. The Café de Los Austrias I would definately try out if I would go back to Madrid only because of the buidling.

Royal Palace

As we arrived by the Royal Palace we firstly walked arround the garden of it and looked us arround as I am also always interested what is next to such a place.

Arround this time it also was really sunny and we were getting a little bit tired as well.

The palace was stunning and I recoginzed its gate from the internet. I often have seen this picutre and it also did inspire myself for a picture of myself which you may can find on my instagram account @florinasb. So I was really amazed to find this gate in Madrid.

We were getting really tried and went back in the direction to our appartment to also search a dinner possibility for the evening. On our way I discovered this beautiful building which I also had to take off some pictures.

Where we eat Dinner on our first day

We decide to eat near the appartment as we were tired of the day and we did not want to walk as long. So we really wanted to eat in the food marked Mercado de San Miguel. The tried out some paella and drank some beers and sangrias. And to eat in the food marked I would definately recommend!

Day two in Madrid, Thursday 27th of April 2017

On the second day we slept a little bit to long and we were getting ready really slowly so we just went out of the appartment arround lunch time. So we decided to walk to the food marked to take some smoothies to go.

As we tooked our smoohies we searched our way with the map maps.me to the restaurant and walked in that direction.

As we arrived there to early we went to a coffee shop first to wait until the kitchen of the restaurant would be open. So we decided us for a little one which we had spotted on the way.

Where we drank Coffee

On our way we had seen this little coffee shop with churros in the windows and we definately wanted to go there to try some. The coffee shop and bar called Valentina Coffee & Coctails was a really good discovery! The waiter was very friendly and also the ambient was comfortable.

We drank our coffees and tried some churros which were also good ones and stayed there for 30min before walked back to the restaurant.

Where we eat lunch on the second day

We decided us for a restaurant which I have found on the internet while I was searching through some blogs which had some restaurant recommendations and I decided myself to this one. The restaurant was called Frida and it really stand out with its decoration which I fell in love with.

We decided to try out those two tapas: Tosta de jamón ibérico sobre pan de cristal y tomate rallado and the Alcachofitas confitadas con crujiente de jamón y huevo poché.

I tooked for the main course the Tajine de pollo, verduras, dátiles y cous cous and he went for the enchiladas.

After this amazing lunch we wanted to go to the second best food marked of Madrid (in my opinion) the food marked Mercado de San Anton. In that area there are also a lot of stunning buildings which I had to take pictures of:

Mercado de San Anton

The food marked Mercado de San Anton was also a very interesting one but as we were full from the lunch we could not try much of the food marked. But I always think it is very interesting just to walk trough and see what they offer.

What is really cool about this food marked is that it has a rooftop and I am all about rooftops. So we went up to take a look arround.

Next to the entrance there was this cute little pop-up store of ice creams and we had to try it out. I went for one which was called raspberry cheescake and he took one with pinapple and passion fruit. And I would suggest to take one which is not that sweet as mine was as it was just to much and to sweet for myself. But at least it was pink and looked cute.

Afterwards we walked to the El Retiro Park.

El Retiro Park

El Retiro Park is very beautiful and perfect to stroll arround. We decide to walk to the El Estanque Grande to rest there a little bit. So we searched a place where we had a great view to the Monument to King Alfonso XII.

After we rest a bit we walked to the Palacio de Cristal.

Palacio de Cristal

The Palacio de Cristal is one of the most beautiful buildings I can think of, Allmost the whole building is glass and looks just stunning. In front of it is a little lake where you can find a lot of turtels, blake swans and ducks who making the ambient even more beautiful.

After that insane castle we wanted to go to the Jardines de la Rosaleda garden.

Jardines de la Rosaleda del Retiro

The Jardines de la Rosaleda was such a beautiful place. I can definately suggest you to go there and what else can I say to a garden? The roses were really stunning!

We spend almost the whole afternoon at the park until the sun began to set. So we walked back into the center of Madrid as we also get hungry.

Chocolateria San Gines

Also one of my top five things I had to do in Madrid was to go to the Chocolateria San Gines to try out their churros. As San Gines has exellent references I really wanted to go there and oh my god you guys their churros are unbelievable!

After a long though if we should take another portion we decide to leave and walk arround the center of Madrid. I really suggest to make pictures of the buildings while the sun sets as there is such a beautiful light. I love the atmophere which you get than:

Where we eat dinner on the second day

As we walked trough the narrow alleys of Madrid we walked into this little restaurant which should be also famous for there shrimps. The restaurant was called La Casa del Abuelo. So we decide to try out some and ordered the garlic shrimps and the a portion of the white ones. It was definately an interesting experience and after it we felt like local people.

After that long day we stroll arround and ended in our appartment very very tired.

Third day in Madrid, 28th of April 2017

On this day we wanted to go to the train station to finally buy our train tickets to Còrdoba and Seville. But first we had to go back to the Restaurant Chocolateria San Gines to eat some more churros as they were just so soo good! So we could not resist.

Then we made our way to the station and again this buildings!

Puerta de Atocha

The station Puerta de Atocha is about 30min walk form our appartment apart so we decided to walk there. The station itself was really big and beautifully decoraded. In the middle of the station there is this little jungle and also a little artificial pond with turtels in it.

If you also want to buy tickets at the station of Madrid you have to know that you have to wait a long time if you want to buy a ticket which is not for the same day. We had to wait arround 1 hour. But of course it was worth it when I think of the amazing trips we had!

After we bought the tickets we walked back and looked if we could find a restaurant on the way.

Where we eat lunch on our third day

On the way we found the restaurant Mirador del Arco de Cuchilleros which is located behind the Plaza Mayor. We really wanted to try out a typically spanish restaurant with typically tapas. So that one was great for that.

So we ordered a lot of tapas which looked the best to us. The menu list was with pictures so it was very easy for us to order as we just had to type on the picture we wanted.

We also tried out two typically desserts of Madrid which where fried milk and a caramel cream.

We took a little Siesta break at our appartment and went afterwards to the Circulo de Bellas Artes.

Circulo de Bellas Artes

One oh the things that I wanted to do the most was to go on the rooftop Circulo de Bellas Artes. (<- live webcame). As you can take there some of the most beautiful pictures of Madrid. You have to pay £3 to go up but it is definately worth it!

We also went to the bar and drank a beer and a sangria to finish up our little trip to the rooftop. We stayed as long as we get hungry so we decided to go back home to change our clothes for something which is more warm for the evening.

Where we eat dinner on the third day

We really wanted to go to a little mexican restaurant which called Tacos & Tapas so we went ther and it was just unbelievable. We had there the best Nachos, Tacos, Faijtas and Enchiladas of our lifes. The food was just amazing and the owner of the restaurant is such a nice man. I can higly suggest you to go there! You have to if you love mexican Food! The owner of the restaurant also gifted us some wine and shots and he was such a friendly person we both could not say no to him. So we eat also dessert even we were totally full!

After that amazing food we went back home and I think we had the best sleep of the whole trip.

Fourth day in Madrid, 30th of April 2017

The fourth day was unfortunately a rainy day so we decided to spend the day to visit some shops and to go to a museum.

Where we eat lunch on our fourth day

Unfortunately the day started not well as the food was not really good in the restaurant Casa Nicasio. The paella were really greasy but I also think that the kitchen was an old spanish traditional one.

Museo Arqueológico Nacional de España

After the meal we went into some shops near it and than we went to the museum Museo Arqueológico Nacional de España. The museum is very interesting and beautifully made. We also were very lucky as coincidentally we went there on a saturday were the entrance is free. So the visite was even better!

We spend the whole afternoon in the museum so as we came out of it it was already time to search a restaurant for dinner.

Where we eat dinner on our third day

We decided us for the restaurant Dray Martina which belongs to the the same restaurant group as the restaurant Frida which we already had visited. And also that one was very beautifully decoraded. The food was also good even I took not the best choices for myself food wise.

We also ordered here some tapas: Firstly we ordered the Ensalada de espinacas y rúcula con espárragos verdes, tomate seco y parmesano.

And than we went for the Pizza de tomate seco, queso de cabra y cebolla caramelizada.

For the main dishes he went for the Burger rellena de queso brie con cebolla caramelizada y rúcula and I took the Tacos de pollo pad-thai con guacamole.

On our fourth day we went to Còrdoba (click on the link to see our Daytrip in Còrdoba)!

On the fifth day we went to Seville. (click on the link to see our Daytrip in Seville)

Sixth Day in Madrid, Tuesday 02th of May 2017 - My Birthday

On my birhtday we both were very tried because of the two day trips to Còrdoba and Seville. So one of my birthday wishes was definately to sleep a little bit longer. In the morning he went out to take me a vanilla latte from Starbucks so the day could not really start any better. I wanted to have a really relaxed birthday and we decided to go shopping. So we went to the big shopping street Gran Via and went up the Street Calle de Fuencarral until we got hungry.

Where we eat lunch on our sixth day

While shopping we were getting really hungry and found the restaurant Naif which reminds me a lot of Berlin style wise. Mosty I think because of the grafity and the way how they decoraded it. The food also was really good as it has a lot of sandwich, wraps and burgers.

After lunch we went into more shops and stroll arround in Madrid.

Where we eat dinner on our sixth day

Yesterday as we came back from Còrdoba I really craved pizza so went at the evening to the La Pizzateca. On our way back home we decide to went another way so we may find some good restaurants for my birthday. And we did find the restaurant La Mucca which offers a lot of different kind of food and I also can recommand their Sangria - it is delicious!
So we shared a big portion of Nachos which were not so good as the one from Taco and Tapas.

For the main meal I went for a diavola pizza and he went for the thai curry whit chicken. The food was really good.

Also he went to the waiters and ask if they could bring me some cake at the end of the dinner with a birthday candel on it. And after we had eaten the waiters let play a birthday song and they brought me some cake and it was really embarrassing but I really appreciate it!

So I felt like my birthday was completed. After we had eaten we went back to our appartment because we had to wake up at 4:30 a.m. to go to the airport. So we went home, packed our stuff and enjoyed our last evening together in Madrid.

I really tried to keep the order the same as we also walked and have seen Madrid by ourself. So I hope if you will go to Madrid you will exactly see the places if you walked the same route as we did and I think that would be really cool. So I hope you like the pictures. I tried to photograph as much as possible to keep all the memories of this beautiful city.
I really appreciate the fact that I could visite Madrid with my boyfriend and also to celebrate my birthday there it maked me so happy.

Hope this blogpost can may also inspire you to visite Madrid! I would love the hear your thoughts about it and also if you have any recommandations please leave them down below.

Much love, xx
Florina
