ONE WEEK IN BERLIN, GERMANY 2017

It is now ca. 1 week after I came back from Berlin and I already missing to be exhausted from all the walking and of discovering this amazing city. My boyfriend Alon and I visited Berlin for one week. At first we thought I would be way to long but we managed it very well and we found every day something to see and do.

So I am really happy to be able to show you some amazing pictures of our trip and I hope you will love them as well!

ARRIVAL IN BERLIN, SATURDAY

The first day did not went very well as our flight had almost 3 hours delay. But as it is only a short fly from Zurich to Berlin (around 2 and a half our) we did not let our mood go down. Although it was a saturday there were not a lot of peoples around us. As our flight was planned to be arround 10:00 o'clock Alon and I woked up very early this day. So we almost sleept the whole flight.

As we arrived at the airport Berlin Tegel it was very strange as the airport is still not finished yet. I already heard about the "gost trains" which have to drive trough the station that the track not begins to rust. To see this as first impression of a city was very odd.

WHERE WE STAYED

We took a taxi to the appartment which we booked over Airbnb. We also had to go to a coffee shop named Lois were our keys to the appartment were given to. As we had the keys to the appartment we straight went there to look at it and also to set up our suitcases.

The appartment which we booked was a very modern loft with a big panorama window. It was a very nice appartment disregarding the bathroom which did not had a shower curtain. But apart that it was very beautiful and very good located.

OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

The apartment was in the middle of the metro station Rosenthaler Platz and Rosa-Luxenburg-Platz so we were one metro station away from the Alexanderplatz and the Fernsehrturm of Berlin. As we lodge our suitcases we strolled around our neighborhood and walked to the Alexanderplatz and trough the Hackescher Markt. We walked around until we got very hungry so we decide to search something near us.

WHERE WE EAT DINNER ON THE FIRST DAY & HOW I CHOOSED

I was very lucky to have a friend (Sophia) who lived in Berlin and who gave me some really good advice were I should go to eat. Also I reachered a lot trough the internet to find some good restaurants. The first one was in my opinion one of the more bad choices which we tooked. But may we just both took the wrong meal. So the first stop was the restaurant Spreegold which was a healthier choice and the restaurant was everywere in Berlin. We decide to go to the one which was on the Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 2.

HOW WE NAVIGATE TROUGH BERLIN

After that we went back near our appartment to search a grocery store. We did not find one at first so I used my app maps.me which is the most usefull app I have! I highly recommand this app. It is an offline map so you do not need internet while you use it. Also it finds a lot of usefull things arround you. I used this app already in New York, Barcelona, Venedig, Miami and also in Zurich and I am so so glad that I have it! I always mark my favorit shops or restaurant and other important thing I want to see. Also the app can calculate the way to your location so you are able to find it.

OUR FIRST CURRYWURST IN BERLIN

So with help from this app we were able to find a grocery store next to the Rosenthaler-Platz. After the shopping we went back to the Rosenthaler-Platz to try out a Currywurst. We tried out the Currywurst of the restaurant Curry Mitte (which we also find with the app haha so you see how it went).

SECOND DAY IN BERLIN, SUNDAY

On the second day we wanted to start the day with a really good breakfast. I am the typ of person who loves breakfast/brunch before every other meal even I only eat breakfast on the weekend or on holidays.

WHERE WE EAT BREAKFAST

We went to the restaurant Distrikt Coffee which should be known for their pancakes. The restaurant was very busy on this sunday so there were a lot of peoples standing already outside the door as we arrived. But we decided to wait as we really wanted to try this restaurant out.

And I can confirm that the pancakes are very very good and also the coffee was amazing. I really love how they do the coffee and you will always find this amazing print on the coffee in Berlin..

SIGHTSEEING TOUR

After this great meal we decide to go for a sightseeing tour. What else should we do on a sunday? Also as we had so much time in Berlin so we decide to walk by ourself through the city and discover it by our own.

HOLOCAUST

First of we wanted to see the monuments which were the nearst from our stay which was the Holocaust. I did not take a lot of pictures of this monument as I did not feel like I wanted to. It is a very emotional piece of history and I really did not undestand how people could walk by and make selfies with this monument. Yes, it looks very cool but I think it is not right. Also it made me very insecure and groggy. So we just walked by and walked a little bit through this monumnet for a few mintues after we left it behind us.

BRANDENBURGER TOR

The Brandenburger Tor was really stunning and somehow also beautiful. For me it is the monument which comes into my mind when I think of Berlin so I really wanted it to see. Also of course I had to take some pictures which Alon did and I am so proud of him. He does not have any experience with a camera asside from the iphone camera so I was very proud that the pictures came out very well.

Also find more of these on @florinasb on instagram.

BUNDESTAG

Also we passed by the Bundestag to see this amazing building as well. We decide not to go in and just to look at it from the outside. And I really liked the architecture of this building. And probably I am one of the only person who took pictures already of the back of the building. But I thought it looked almost better than the front.

COFFEE AND CAKE

After our little sightseeing we decide to go for "Kaffee und Kuchen" - coffee and cake which the germans are known for. We went to the area near the Prenzlauer Berg as there were some very good coffee places and restaurants. On our way to the restaurant we also saw some flower shops.
Fun fact: Flowers in Berlin are more than 10 time cheaper than in Zurich.

The place were we wanted to go for "Kaffee and Kuchen" was called Anna's Blume "Anna's Flower" - I think this was really funny as we had seen so many flowers on the way to it. We stayed there very long and also tried their homemade cake which was very good. We tried out the cake chocolate cream cake and the nutmeg with nugat one.

After that we walked back to our appartment next to Anna's Blume there is a tree where people can give and take books. So it works like a libery. This idea I think is very cute and also very practical to try something new.

Also we passed by those amazing building which looks excactly like the ones in Paris in my opinion.

On our way to the metro station Eberswalderstrasse we walked by this big building which was marked as the "Kultur Brauerei" - Culture brewery. We decide to walk through as it looked very interessting.

At the and of these amazing red building there was a streetfood festival. And everyone who knows me whould know that I had to go there! We were both so excided to find this place and we decided to try out something even we were very full from the cakes.

So we walked arround and looked at every single food they offered. But I just had to try this fresh oven made pizza. It was on the first food truck we have seen and it smelled delicious. So I could only think about this pizza the whole time. And it was one of the best when not event the best pizza I have ever tried.

WHERE WE EAT DINNER

After that we drived back to the appartment to rest a little bit till we got hungry again. We decided to go to the restaurant Bun Bao. I did never heard of something like this food before. It was an asain burger which looked very diffrent to the usuall burgers you would get else where. So we were both very skeptical but I really liked them even if they looked a little bit like they were sick.

WHICH BAR WE HAVE CHOOSEN

Afterwards we wanted to try out a bar near to the restaurant Bun Bao. Alon found one which had really good rating on Tripadvisor. So we choosed the Saphire Bar & Lounge which was a very good choice. The bar keeper was very nice and had a big knowledge about all the drinks and could answer every little question we had. It was really stunning and also he was very charming. And the drinks were perfect. I think I never had such an amazing drink before. My drink was the Mumien aus Eis (frozen) and it looked and taste like ice cream. Also it came in this super cute rose golden cup with chocolate powder on top. Yes, dream came true.

For all my german friends please find below the ingredients:

  • Saphire Zitronengras Vodka,
  • Absolut Vanilla Vodka,
  • Muskatblüte,
  • frisches Waldbeerenpüree,
  • Preiselbeersirup,
  • Johannisbeernektar,
  • half-and-half,
  • Zartbitterschokoladenraspel

After these amazing drinks we had a really good sleep.

THIRD DAY IN BERLIN, TUESDAY

On the third they we should had have the best wheater so we decide to go today to the zoo. But first we wanted to get some food.

WHERE WE EAT BREAKFAST

We decide to eat somewhere which where not that far away so we decide us for the restaurant Betty'n Caty. Betty'n Caty is a litte but cute restaurant which offers some nice and most of the time healthy breakfasts. It does look a little bit vintage but it makes the restaurant very cosy and adorable. After yesterday I choosed a healthier option: Acai Bowl with fruits and it was really really good.

After our breakfast we drived with the metro station to the station "Zoologischer Garten" to be next to the zoo. But before we went to the zoo we walked arround that area and shopped a little bit. After that we just went to a restaurant near the zoo which was not that nice so I did not take any picutre of it.

ZOO & AQUARIUM OF BERLIN

We spend arround 3 hours in the zoo as it was very interesting and enjoyable.

One of the most cutest things was the petting zoo as we could feed and pet some of their little animals like ponys, seeps, donkeys and goats.

But I think the most interesting part in my opinion was the aquarium of the zoo. I love the underwater world and all these amazing plants and creatures.

After long discovering and walking through these amazing different worlds and aeras we wanted to go to a bar.

WHICH BAR WE CHOOSED

It was Alon's second time he visited Berlin and he recommand the Monkey bar so so much and it is now one of the most stunning bars I know, too. The Monkey bar is also in the shopping Mall Bikini Berlin located and it is right next to the Zoo. So if you go to the window which looks to the zoo you are able to see the monkey bawn. We decide us to try out some white wine and just rest a little bit after this long day.

We stayed there for a really long time until it was night and time for dinner. So we drived back with the metro to Rosenthaler-Platz to go to the restaurant Dudu.

WHERE WE EAT DINNER

Dudu is a very nice sushi place but it also offers some alternatives. As Alon and I both do not like sushi but we went there as Sophia told us that they offer the best curry. And we really want to try it out. I think that I miss the restaurant Dudu the most. It was so soo delicious I wish it would be also located in switzerland.

FOURTH DAY IN BERLIN, TUESDAY

On the fourth day we choosed the restaurant House of Small Wonders. I always have seen the most beautiful pictures of this place with this amazing stair and all its details. So it was from the begining one of the most important places of my bucketlist. The breakfast itself was pretty good but most enjoyable was the place and the decoration. It looked very retro and everywhere were plants. I went for the french toast with fruits and it was really good!

Because of the walking we did yesterday we where very tired and did not want to walk a lot. We decide to go a little bit shopping arround our appartment.

WHERE WE EAT LUNCH

We often did not really eat lunch as we always eat breakfast very late and therefore we were not really hungry arround lunch time. But on this day we were a little bit hungry and we wanted to try out a Burrito from the Berlin Burrito Company. So we went there and tried some but I was a little bit disappointed with it as it was not really special as I thought it would be. So also there we did not do any pictures.

After we have eaten we strolled around for quiet a long time so we decided to go to the Mall of Berlin to continue storlling arround there. So nothing really interesting happened on the afternoon. As we were very tried we went back to the appartment to rest a bit and allowed ourselves to do not much for one day.

WHERE WE EAT DINNER

As we had so much time we also researched where we should go for dinner. So we found this amazing japanies restaurant where you can barbecue your one meat. I never went to such a place before as in Switzerland it would be unpaiable to go to such a kind of restaurant. But in Berlin it was much cheaper and an amazing experience. As we both did not have a knowledge of great meat we just took one of the big plates to try out a few of them. And it was a great decision.

THE FIFTH DAY, WEDNESDAY

On the fifth day we did not really know what we wanted to do. Unfortunately the weather went really bad and it rained the whole day. So we decide to do another shopping day. But first of course we had to eat.

WHERE WE EAT BREAKFAST

Because of the shitty wheater we did not want to walk far away from our appartment. So we went to Anna's Blume again as we had seen that they also should have amazing food for breakfast.

So after the breakfast we walked arround again and discovered some new places arround the area. It also stoped raining for a bit so we it was a little bit more enjoyable.

CATEDRAL OF BERLIN

We also decided to go to the Berliner Catedral as we did not went there before. Unfortunately it began to rain again on our way so we just went there and took some pictures.

After that I had to go to an optician to buy a cleaning cloth as my camera lens got some drops on it.
On this day we also did not much interesting more just walking arround and spending time together.

WHERE WE EAT DINNER

As we were so in love with the restaurant Dudu  where we eat a few days ago. We decide to go there again and try out something different. But we were so in love with the nuddle salate that Alon wanted to try it again. I decide to go for a different menu and it was also extremely good. Thinking back about this menu makes me hungry again!

After that we went for a drink in Kaschk  that means Alon drank a beer and I talked to him about life. The bar Kaschk was pretty cool as it offered a lot of different beer from around the world. What maked this bar also different was that it owned a shufflebar.

THE SIXTH DAY IN BERLIN, THURSDAY

On the sixth day we really were out of ideas what we should do the whole day as the weather was not looking very nice. One of the thing we clearly wanted to do was to go to the  East side Gallery and walk along the wall. But as you allready can guess we need to eat something.

WHERE WE EAT BREAKFAST

I really wanted to go to the restaurant Roamers for breakfast as it looked very different form the other places I did know before. Also it was recommanded a lot from our friend Sophia and also on TripAdvisor it came up a lot. Unfortunately we had to wait until a table was avaiable and as the restaurant is very little we had to wait outside in the rain. But after 10 min we had finally a table. The restaurant itself was very interesting decorated. It had an american flair to it but because of the many plants and flowers it had something very natural about it.

Alon watched Galileo the other day and it was about a Zalando Outlet in Berlin. And I am a big Zalando fan so I definately wanted to go there. It was definately a funny experience.
Next to the outlet was a big furniture shop called Exit Wohnmagazin. We also went there to take some pictures of the furniture for a friend of Alon's father. This friend just rent a new appartment in Zurich and was searching for some new furniture. As she heard that we were going to Berlin she asked if we could look for some lamps etc. It also was very interesting as we both are in an age were moving out from home was not that far away anymore. Also I really love furniture stores so I really enjoyed it.

WHERE WE EAT DINNERAt the evening we eat dinner in the pizzaria which was the best rated one in Berlin. The restaurant Papa Pane Di Sorrento was really great! I think I eat there the best pizza I have ever eaten in my life. As we were so hungry I also did not take any picture of this place. Also it was really dark in the room and a little bit romantic so decide not to take any pictures. We also drank a little bit to much wine before we went home.

SEVENTH DAY & ALSO LAST DAY IN BERLIN, FRIDAYWe both were very tried because oft the drinking wine from yesterday. But we decide to wake up very early (arround 7 a.m.) to have the most of the last day. Also the weather app said that today should be a very warm day. So we finally could go to the East Side Gallery. On our way to the Gallery we stopped by Starbucks to get us a coffee on the go to wake us up. So we walked along the East Side Gallery and looked at all the painting and their text which descriebed for what the pictures should stand for. It was very emotional and also hard to read some stories of the painting. Also it was very sad that people took graffitis on the painting as I think it is so rude to destroy an art of someone who put effort and thoughts behind those pictures. Happily some of the pictures were about to be renovate but that was also why we did not have seen all of it as a few walls were blank and ready to be painted again.
After we walked next to the wall till it ends we were next to the train station Ostbahnhof.

WHERE WE EAT BREAKFASTWe both were very tried and we did not search long for a place to go for breakfast. So we just looked on my bucketlist where we were not before and so we decide us for the restaurant Keyser Soze. The restaurant itself is very beautiful on the outside and has really funny zebra walls. The food was also really nice. I went for the omlette with ham and some orange juice and Alon went a little bit crazy with his fruit jogurt and coffee. By mistake he put way to much sugar in it and it did not help that he was very tried as his reaction came very late. Also he had this stupid idea when he would do salt in his coffee it would taste not that bad. Yeah.. he may was still drunk I do not know.

After breakfast we went back to the appartment as we had to pack our stuff as we had to check out by 11 o'clock. We also took the chance to rest a little bit as we did not know when we could do it next.

THE PHOTOSHOOTING

After we had everything packed we droved with the metro back to the station Zoologischer Garten to go again to the Bikini Berlin Mall. As we we went to the zoo on monday we have seen this amazing store where you could make a photoshooting.

So we decide to do the photoshooting to have a really nice memory of Berlin. The shop is called Shots of Art and it also has some very nice closeths. So it works like following: You can still yourself with help of a stylist for the shooting and there are a LOT of clothes and accessoires - everything of your choice. After that you will have a shooting by yourself about 5min and afterwards with your partner a double shooting.
It was really interesting as we both did not really know how excatly we wanted the look to be. So I just let the stylist help me and I just said "Do what you want - I trust you". And she choosed really strange things which I would never had choosen but I think this should also be the idea.
After I put on everything she told me she put some details on me: Sunglasses, necklace and also a hat ( I never wear hats!). Afterwards they put my hair into a big messy bun and so I was ready for the shooting. The photographer set me in place and took a lot of pictures. What really impressed me was that she knew excactly how she wanted me to look and be. So it followed a lot of navigation of her and I tried to follow them. And it went really well she was also really happy with me and with the results. After many position changes Alon was also ready to be shooted so we had some shoots together. We had so much fun and I am really happy that we did it and I would love to do it again someday!
Also I was really suprised as I saw the pictures! I decide to take two pictures of the shoot on a stick so I could do with them whatever I would like. Alon choosed to print a t-shirt with the picture below of us two. Unfortunately it was really expensive: EUR 200.00 for all pictures! So that is why I only choosed two of them.

After the shooting we went back to the Berlin Tegel Airport to go back home to switzerland.
We had an amazing time and I hope you will love the information and tipps where you can go to in Berlin. I am really glad and blessed to be able to go there and had some really amazing holidays. I am now totally in love with Berlin and I am looking forward to plan my next holidays!

Please leave me some tipps or any ideas down below which you have about Berlin or where I should go next.

I wish you much love and fun!

xoxo Florina
